Chronoscout
A Discovery Platform for Watch Enthusiasts

As founder and sole developer, I turned Chronoscout from a simple idea into a complete B2B SaaS platform with over 215 watch brands, 7300 watches, payment processing, and business intelligence dashboards.
This project represents my founder mindset and ability to independently design and build complex products.

The Challenge:
A Fragmented Market for Passionate Fans

The world of microbrand watches is growing rapidly, but discovering new brands and models is like a treasure hunt without a map. Enthusiasts must dig through scattered forums, fragmented platforms, endless social media scrolling, and hundreds of manufacturer websites just to find interesting new watches. There was no single trusted source for discovering, comparing, and tracking brands.

As an enthusiast myself, I felt this pain firsthand. I didn’t just see a gap in the market, I saw a solution I personally wanted to exist. The challenge was to create a comprehensive, user-friendly platform that could serve as the central hub for this passionate community.

My Approach:
Pragmatic Decisions for Fast Progress

My goal wasn’t to build a perfect product in secrecy, it was to launch a robust, market-ready platform with real paying users within six months. This required a pragmatic mindset focused on speed, efficiency, and smart technology choices.

Built After Hours and on Weekends

Chronoscout was developed entirely during evenings and weekends, while I held a full-time job. This reflects my passion and commitment to turning an idea into a real, working product, without compromising on quality or pace.

A Modern Stack for Speed and Scalability

I deliberately chose a modern JavaScript stack to maximize productivity and minimize both operational and development complexity.

  • Remix on the frontend was a key choice. Its server-centric model simplifies data loading and mutations, providing a huge productivity boost for a solo developer. This approach allows for fast, interactive UIs without the need for complex API or client-server separation.
  • For the database, I chose SQLite to eliminate setup time and server costs. This let me focus 100% on building features rather than managing infrastructure. I used Kysely, a type-safe SQL query builder, to drastically speed up the process of writing complex queries.
  • To prepare the platform for monetization from the start, I integrated Stripe for secure payment processing, creating a real business foundation directly inside the application.

From Directory to Dynamic Ecosystem

Chronoscout needed to be more than just a list of watches, it had to provide real value to both enthusiasts and brands. To achieve that, I designed and built a range of interconnected features.

For Enthusiasts:
A Powerful Discovery Engine

  • Advanced Search & Filtering
Every collector has preferences, whether it’s a wrist-friendly diameter or a specific budget. Users can go beyond simple searches and filter by detailed criteria to find exactly what they’re looking for. Newcomers to the hobby can even “build” their ideal watch through filtering options.
  • Real-Time Notifications
At the core of the user experience is a real-time alert system. Collectors can subscribe to instant updates for new releases from their favorite brands, ensuring they never miss a drop. Each watch can also be “followed” to receive alerts for releases, restocks, and re-releases.
  • Statistical Insights
Chronoscout tracks the availability of thousands of watches in the microbrand market. As watches go from “available” to “sold out,” it derives metrics like “last available,” “restock frequency,” “scarcity score,” and “demand.” This turns FOMO into a more predictable, data-driven collecting experience.

For Brands:
A Self-Service Marketing & Business Intelligence Platform

A dedicated B2B feature set creates direct revenue streams and provides immense value to brands.

  • Promotion & Advertising Tools
Brands can feature new releases directly on the homepage and in newsletters. They also gain access to advanced real-time performance tracking, giving them a clear ROI on their marketing spend.
  • Business Intelligence
Because collectors subscribe to watches, signaling real demand, brands can use Chronoscout Intelligence to see which models resonate most with customers and identify which watches are worth restocking or re-releasing.

The Commercial Backbone:
Seamless Monetization

All payments and subscriptions, powering both premium user features and brand-side tools, are securely handled through Stripe, creating a robust and scalable commercial foundation.

The Result:
A B2B SaaS Platform with 215+ Brands and 7300+ Watches

In just six months, I built Chronoscout from the first line of code into a fully functional production platform:

  • 215+ watch brands fully cataloged and classified
  • 7300+ watch models with real-time availability tracking
  • Automatic alerts for new releases and restocks
  • B2B analytics dashboards with scarcity scores, demand tracking, and ROI metrics
  • Stripe integration for seamless payments and subscriptions
  • Bilingual (German/English) from day one

The platform runs stably with sub-200ms response times, serving both collectors and brands with actionable data insights.
